Everyone always loves a 10 things you need post, but you usually don’t see them for every season when it comes to weddings. We want to change that up a bit because every season deserves it’s day! Winter is the most magical and beautiful time of year, but with this comes the cold nip at your nose and the crisp frosty mornings. This is what you need to make your wedding day that extra bit special in those winter months…

Blankets. Lots and lots of blankets. Whether you go for a matching classy colour set, winter faux fur mixes, granny squares for the vibrant colours, or stay cosy with warm winter colours. Blankets are simply a must. Guests can wear them over their shoulders when popping outside or simply bundle up for a drink on the terrace. This makes for some cosy evening photos around the fire pit, but most importantly, it shows that you care about your guests. There’s nothing worse than shivering as you wait for the taxi at the end of the night.
-
A Fire Pit. Another winter warmer for the guests that just love to be outdoors. A really cool way of keeping your friends and family cosy and having the little added extras that guest just love, the perfect place for your friends to escape the dance floor for a chilled out five minutes. Add in some marshmallows, chocolate biscuits and maybe even a chocolate pot or two, you’ve created a little haven for your friends and family. Here they can chat and toast, not only the newly married couple, but marshmallows too!

This might just be our favourite, sparklers. Not only do they entertain your nearest and dearest but you can create some truly memorable moments and photos to go with it. Inexpensive but very impactful. Here’s a few of shots that we just truly love!
-
Seasonal drinks. As you’re thinking of a winter wedding, you may as well embrace the Christmas spirit. Now we aren’t talking a full on Christmas theme, though that would be something special! We are talking about mulled wine and Bailey’s hot chocolates! ‘Pimp your Prosecco’ can take a hike, let’s change it up and bring in the winter warmers that everyone knows and loves! A night cap treat for your guests! This could be your wedding favours, toasting drink, or it could be the drink at the end of the wedding breakfast rather than traditional tea and coffee.
-
A Cape or a Bolero. Most of our other items are aimed at the comfort of your guests and you, but this one’s all about the bride. We all know that UK weather will be bitterly cold, so what better way to rock that winter bride look than with a bolero, cape or snood coat. Everyone’s seen them and drooled over how majestic and purely romantic a winter cape looks over a wedding dress. They not only look fantastic, they’re also a must as no ones likes to see a shivering bride.
-
Tweed suits. You may be rolling your eyes at this. Yes, they are very traditional in the country look, but they’re much warmer for the grooms of the day and their party. They create and nurture the winter theme with the deeper colours, rich and thick fabrics. Tweed is such a beautiful and classic suit material that screams class and sophistication. Think of a log cabin country retreat with a big fire and tweed jackets on the coat hooks? Doesn’t that just make you dream of wellies and winter!
-
Dancing Socks. Now that I’ve mentioned footwear, here’s another out of the box idea. Get rid of the flip flop dancing shoes and go for the dancing socks. Warm fluffy socks in a crate for your dance floor friends. Nobody wants to go barefoot on the dance floor. Grippy fluffy socks are the only way to guarantee a full dance floor and happy dancing feet. I love a new pair of fluffy socks, who doesn’t? Is there really any better momento for your guests to keep?
-
White Biodegradable Confetti. A lush way to honour the season with snow like confetti. Beautiful for your photos and a little touch of snow, which we can’t always guarantee for a white winter here in the UK. Let it snow with confetti that will add that touch of winter to your ceremony and create a snow like visualisation for your wedding photos. Here at Today’s The Day, we know how to work with what we have and that the weather doesn’t always play our games!
-
Voile & Twinkle Back Drop. Picture yourself sat at the top table with a flowing snow white back drop, adorned with flowers and sparkly lights behind the voile, to create a truly majestic winter look. What a perfect wedding backdrop to truly set the scene for your magical day. This can be behind you at the wedding breakfast or at the end of your aisle. The sparkle of the fairy lights, bringing such a beautiful glow to highlight the happy couple.
-
Finally, an SOS Bride & Groom Kit. These little goodies are perfect to keep in the bathroom of your event. They can have all the little things that just make it easier for you and your guests on the day! Soft tissues for your cold noses, plasters for feet, tights for colder legs or ladders, plus lots more! A must for every season, but the winter season is always a season where you need to be a little bit more prepared.
If you’re one of those few brides or grooms with a winter wedding in the calendar, we hope our top 10 helps to add that extra sparkle to your wonderful day. Winter can be such a beautiful season, where you can celebrate so many wonderful things, so we wish you all a magical winter this year.
